Cat Vaccinations in East Texas

Keeping your cat up to date on vaccinations is one of the most important steps you can take to protect their long-term health. At Vets of East Texas, we provide comprehensive, veterinarian-recommended cat vaccination protocols designed to protect kittens and adult cats from common and serious feline diseases while complying with local Texas regulations.

Whether you have a new kitten or an adult cat needing boosters, our experienced veterinary team is here to guide you every step of the way.

Why Cat Vaccinations Matter

Vaccines help prevent contagious and potentially life-threatening diseases in cats. Even indoor-only cats are at risk, as many viruses are airborne, highly contagious, or can be brought into the home on clothing or shoes. Following a proper vaccination schedule builds strong immunity and keeps your cat, and the community, protected.

Core Cat Vaccines We Offer

RCPC Vaccine

(Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia, Chlamydia Psittaci)

The RCPC vaccine is considered a core vaccine for cats and protects against several highly contagious respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases.

Recommended Schedule:

  • Starts at 6 weeks of age
  • Boosters given every 3–4 weeks
  • Total of 3 rounds for kittens
  • Kittens 6 months or older and adult cats who did not receive proper kitten vaccines will receive 1 booster, followed by another booster in 3–4 weeks
  • After completion, the vaccine is given annually

FeLV Vaccine

(Feline Leukemia Virus)

Feline Leukemia is a serious viral disease spread through close contact with infected cats. Vaccination is especially important for kittens and cats that go outdoors or live with other cats.

Recommended Schedule:

  • Starts at 8 weeks of age
  • One booster given in 3–4 weeks
  • Then administered annually

Rabies Vaccine

Rabies is a fatal disease that can affect both animals and humans. Vaccination is required by law in many Texas counties.

Recommended Schedule:

  • Given between 12–16 weeks of age
  • Must be administered with a veterinarian exam
  • Should be completed by 16 weeks old
  • Given annually

Important Note:

  • In this county, rabies vaccination is required once per year
  • Rabies regulations may vary by county, and our veterinary team will ensure your cat remains compliant with local laws

Fecal Testing for Kittens and Cats

In addition to vaccinations, routine fecal testing plays an important role in your cat’s preventive care.

Why Fecal Testing Matters:

  • Kittens must have two consecutive negative fecal tests
  • Parasites shed at different stages of their lifecycle, so multiple tests ensure accurate results
  • After negative results are confirmed, fecal testing is recommended bi-annually to annually

Missed Vaccine Boosters

To ensure your cat receives the best possible immunity:

If a booster is missed or given more than 4 weeks late, the vaccine series must be restarted. This helps ensure full and effective protection against disease.
